Diplomatic Correspondent: Pakistan has invited leading Turkish telecommunications company Turkcell to explore long-term partnerships in digital infrastructure, 5G deployment, telecommunications manufacturing, and technology transfer as part of its vision to strengthen digital cooperation with Türkiye.
The invitation was extended by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during a meeting with Turkcell Chief Executive Officer Ali Taha Koç in Istanbul on Saturday, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the importance of expanding Pakistan–Türkiye cooperation in the digital and technology sectors. He also shared the government's vision of establishing a Pakistan–Türkiye Digital Corridor aimed at enhancing regional digital connectivity, facilitating secure cross-border data flows, and advancing the integration of digital infrastructure.
The Prime Minister invited Turkcell to collaborate with Pakistani institutions in key areas, including 5G deployment, network optimization, spectrum management, digital infrastructure, and technology transfer.
He also encouraged the company to consider partnerships in the local manufacturing of telecommunications equipment, software development, digital skills development, and capacity building, saying such cooperation would strengthen Pakistan's technology ecosystem while creating new opportunities for innovation, employment, and sustainable economic growth.
Reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to attracting foreign investment, Prime Minister Sharif said the government would continue to ensure a transparent, predictable, and investment-friendly business environment. He noted that the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) plays a key role in supporting strategic investments, particularly in the information and communication technology sector.
Turkcell CEO Ali Taha Koç welcomed Pakistan's digital transformation agenda and expressed the company's strong interest in exploring collaboration opportunities in telecommunications, digital infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
He reaffirmed Turkcell's commitment to working closely with relevant Pakistani stakeholders to develop mutually beneficial partnerships that support the shared economic and technological aspirations of Pakistan and Türkiye.
