Diplomatic Correspondent: The birth anniversaries of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore and National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam were celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Bangladesh National Museum on Thursday evening.
The programme, organized by Itihash O Oitijjo Parishad in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, Cultural School Tapoban, Nrityanchal and bahumatrik.com, brought together distinguished guests, academics, artists and cultural enthusiasts to honor the enduring legacy of the two iconic poets.
Addressing the gathering as the chief speaker, Acting High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Pawankumar Badhe said that Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam continue to live equally and profoundly in the hearts of the people of both India and Bangladesh. He emphasized that the immense admiration and respect for the two literary legends remain among the strongest symbols of the shared cultural heritage and deep-rooted friendship between the two neighboring countries.
One of the major attractions of the evening was the captivating dance-musical presentation titled “Nrityagiti”, directed by renowned artists Shamim Ara Nipa and Shibli Mohammad of Nrityanchal. The performance beautifully blended the musical and philosophical legacies of Tagore and Nazrul through a creative presentation of dance and music. Artists performed group dances to 14 popular songs composed by the two legendary poets, mesmerizing the audience.
The event was attended by Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, MP, as the chief guest. The discussion session, presided over by Professor Niranjan Adhikari, featured insightful presentations by Professor Tarik Manzur of University of Dhaka and Professor Ahmed Reza of Jahangirnagar University.
Adding further vibrancy to the celebration, the event also showcased an exhibition of portraits of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam created by more than one hundred students from 13 schools in Dhaka and surrounding areas. At the conclusion of the programme, certificates of recognition were awarded to the participating young artists for their outstanding contributions.
