Sports Desk: The South American country Brazil is widely known for football. It is one of the most popular footballing nations and a five-time FIFA World Cup champion.
Alongside football, Brazil is also trying to achieve success in cricket. On Thursday, Brazilian women’s cricketer Laura Cardoso created an incredible world record—something no male or female cricketer had ever achieved before.
Remarkably, Cardoso took 9 wickets all by herself in an international Twenty20 cricket match. Such a feat had never been seen before in this short format of the game.
She made history during the Kalahari Women’s T20 Tournament against Lesotho. Cardoso bowled 3 overs, conceding just 4 runs and taking 9 wickets.
In the match, Brazil first posted a huge total of 202 runs. Chasing the target, Lesotho collapsed under Cardoso’s pace and were all out for just 13 runs in 6.2 overs, giving Brazil a massive 189-run victory.
Cardoso took a hat-trick in her second over, claimed 4 more wickets in the fourth over, and added 2 more in the sixth over to complete her 9-wicket haul.
Apart from Brazil and Lesotho, teams from Botswana, Malawi, Zambia, and Mozambique are also participating in the tournament.
