Indian High Commission Warns of Visa Fraud, Urges Applicants to Remain Vigilant

Diplomatic Correspondent: The High Commission of India in Dhaka has issued a public advisory warning visa applicants against fraudsters impersonating High Commission officials and falsely promising visa or other consular services in exchange for money.

According to the advisory, the High Commission has received reports of individuals posing as its officials and contacting people through phone calls, WhatsApp, social media platforms, and email, offering to facilitate visa processing or other consular services for a fee.

The High Commission categorically clarified that no official of the High Commission will ever contact applicants by phone, WhatsApp, social media, or email to offer a visa, promise expedited processing, or solicit any form of payment. It emphasized that all visa applications are processed strictly in accordance with established procedures.

The advisory urged members of the public not to make any payment or share personal or financial information if they receive such fraudulent calls, messages, or offers.

Individuals who encounter suspected visa fraud or impersonation have been requested to report the incident immediately by sending details, including the caller's phone number, screenshots, and any other relevant information, to [email protected].

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding visa applicants, the High Commission called on the public to remain vigilant and help spread awareness to prevent others from falling victim to such fraudulent activities.
