‎Russian House in Dhaka Supports the 21st East West University Astro-Olympiad 2026 ‎

Diplomatic Correspondent: The Award Ceremony and Closing Programme of the 21st East West University Astro-Olympiad 2026 was held today, organized by the Bangladesh Astronomical Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, with the Russian House in Dhaka serving as one of the event's partners.

‎The national final brought together 210 finalists from across all 64 districts of Bangladesh, competing in the Junior and Senior categories. Following the final examination, 30 outstanding students—15 Junior and 15 Senior—were selected for intensive training to prepare them for representing Bangladesh at international astronomy competitions, including the Open World Astronomy Olympiad 2026 in the Sirius Federal Territory, Sochi, Russia.
‎The closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, along with representatives of East West University, the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, SPARRSO, the National Museum of Science and Technology, and other distinguished guests.
‎Addressing the participants, Ms. Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, congratulated the finalists and praised the organizers for their contribution to science education in Bangladesh. She highlighted the outstanding achievements of Bangladeshi students at the Open World Astronomy Olympiad, where the national team earned one Silver Medal in 2024 and an impressive one Gold, two Silver, one Bronze Medal, and one Honorable Mention in 2025.

‎Ms. Khlevnoy encouraged the newly selected students to continue pursuing astronomy and scientific research, expressing confidence that they would proudly represent Bangladesh on the international stage. She also noted that 2026 marks the 65th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's historic first human spaceflight, reminding participants that the exploration of space continues to inspire new generations of young scientists around the world.
