Publisher Dipan murder case: 8 militants sentenced to death

News Desk: The tribunal has sentenced eight members of the banned militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) to death in the murder case of Faisal Arefin Dipon, owner of Jagriti Prakashan.

Wednesday (February 10) Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal Judge. Mujibur Rahman announced the verdict. Six of the eight accused in the case were produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court this morning under special arrangements.

The other two accused have been absconding since the beginning of the case. Security has been beefed up at the court premises following the verdict. Earlier on January 24, the judge of the special anti-terrorism tribunal.

After presenting the arguments of the state and the accused, Mujibur Rahman set a date for the verdict today. On October 31, 2015, Faisal Arefin Dipon was killed in his office at Aziz Super Market in Shahbagh. His wife filed a murder case with Shahbagh Police Station that afternoon. On November 15, 2016, Fazlur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner of Police, DB Dhaka South, filed the chargesheet under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The chargesheet recommended the release of eight accused and the release of 11 others. On October 13, 2019, Judge Mujibur Rahman Ansarullah of the Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Tribunal framed charges against eight people, including Maj. Syed Ziaul Haque, a member of the Bangla team and dismissed from the Bangladesh Army.

The accused are Moinul Hasan Shamim (24); Organizational name Sifat alias Samir alias Imran, Md. A. Sabur (23); Organizational name a. Samad alias Sujan alias Raju alias Sadh, Khairul Islam (24); Organizational name Jamil alias Rifat alias Fahim alias Jisan, Md. Abu Siddique Sohail (34); Organizational name Shakib alias Sajid alias Shahab, Md. Mozammel Hussain alias Simon (25); Organizational name Shahriar, Md. Sheikh Abdullah (27); Organizational name Jubayer alias Zayed alias Jabed alias Abu Umayr, dismissed Major Syed Ziaul Haque (50); Organizational name Sagar alias Ishtiaq alias Bara Bhai and Akram Hossain alias Hasib (28); Organizational name is Abir alias Adnan alias Abdullah.
