Rangpur Bureau:  The Director General of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection said as always, after the raids, there is a tendency of price increase among traders. The concerned traders' associations have to work on this matter. And the Director General of BSTI said, not only through the law courts, but also to prevent fake products and to control the price of everyday products, everyone's conscience should be awakened. He said these things at the press briefing after the city market monitoring of Rangpur city at 11:30 on Saturday (March 30). Director General of Consumer Affairs HM Shafikuzzaman and Director General of BSTI SM Ferdous Alam said.

Before this, they raided the fruit, date, taritirkari and soybean oil shops at the entrance of City Bazar. At that time, the consumer fined 1000 taka to Kamruzzaman store and 10000 taka to BSTI Habibul store. At this time, he answered various questions from the journalists and claimed that due to market monitoring, the prices of products which had increased at the beginning of Ramadan have now decreased. General attendant said, Eggplant was Tk 100 per kg, one day it was publicized in the media. Currently, the price of brinjal is reduced at Tk 30 per kg in Rangpur, while lemon was advertised at Tk 80 per kg, but currently it is being sold at Tk 25 to Tk 30 per kg. It was not published in the media.

Although the issue of high product prices is publicized in the media, there is no publicity about the reduction in product prices. As a result, a class of unscrupulous businessmen take this opportunity. Consumer DG said, "We have come to monitor why the prices of goods are increasing in the northern region during the holy month of Ramadan. Besides, we are monitoring the market to find out if the prices go down in the market and then the prices go up again."

This monitoring is being done in other districts. He also said, due to regular market monitoring, commodity prices are decreasing. As a result, 800 taka watermelon is being sold at 200 taka today. Beef price is 800 taka to 595 taka and 100 taka brinjal is being sold at 30 taka. DG said, we are working to prevent adulteration and counterfeiting in every district. Edible oil is being sold in unsanitary drums in Rangpur market, which is harmful to health.

Moreover, it is difficult to understand which is soybean oil and which is palm oil due to keeping it in a drum. During city market monitoring two traders were fined 11,000 rupees including 10,000 rupees under the Consumer Rights Act and 10,000 rupees for using fake logos in BSTI.

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) Director General SM Ferdous Alam, District Administrator Mohammad Mobashwer Hasan, Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber President Rezaul Islam Milan and other officials were present. Later, they participated in the workshop with various business organizations in the conference room of the DC office.
