The verdict in the publisher Dipan murder case was announced today

News Desk: The verdict in the murder case of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan will be announced today. Last January 24, the judge of the special anti-terrorism tribunal. Mujibur Rahman set the date for the verdict.

On the same day, state prosecutor Golam Sarwar Zakir told the media, "The state has been able to prove the allegations against eight accused in the murder case of Faisal Arefin Dipan, owner of Jagriti Prakashan. We expect the death penalty to be the maximum punishment for the accused in the verdict. ' On the other hand, the lawyer of the accused Nazrul Islam said, "The testimony of 23 witnesses has been taken in the case."

No witnesses have said that the accused are involved in the case. I am hoping that the accused will be acquitted in the verdict. ' Earlier, on October 13, 2019, the court ordered the trial of eight people, including Major Syed Ziaul Haque, who was sacked from the army. Testimony began on 16 November. The accused in the case are Major Syed Ziaul Haque Zia, Akram Hossain alias Hasib alias Abir alias Adnan alias Abdullah, Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Imran, Abdur Sabur Samad alias Sujan alias Raju, Khairul Islam alias Jamil alias Jisan, Abu Siddique.

Shakib alias Sajid alias Shahab, Mozammel Hussain alias Simon alias Shahriar and Sheikh Abdullah alias Jubayer alias Zayed alias Jabed alias Abu Omayer. Police said the suspects were all members of the banned militant group Ansar al-Islam. When six of the accused stood on the fence, the judge wanted to know whether they were guilty or innocent. In reply they claimed their innocence.

The judge later dismissed the pleas of the six accused and framed charges against them. The other two accused Zia and Akram are absconding. On October 31, 2015, Dipan was strangled to death at the office of his publishing house Jagriti at Aziz Super Market in Shahbag. Later, Dipan's wife Razia Rahman filed a murder case with Shahbagh Police Station.

Three years later, on November 15, 2016, Fazlur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner of DB Police, the investigating officer in the case, filed a chargesheet in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court. A total of 26 people were called as witnesses for the state in the charge sheet.
