News Desk: The UK government has summoned Myanmar's ambassador to London. Myanmar's ambassador was summoned on Monday (February 1st) in response to a military coup and the illegal detention of politicians, AFP reported. The Myanmar ambassador was summoned to the UK Foreign Office. The UK Foreign Office has confirmed this information.

A spokesman for the UK Foreign Office said Myanmar's ambassador to London, Kyu Javar Min, had been summoned to the Foreign Office. Nigel Adams, the UK's foreign affairs minister, has condemned the military coup in Myanmar. He also condemned the illegal detention of civilian leaders, including Myanmar's leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

A statement from the State Department said Nigel had called for the immediate release of all civilian leaders detained in Myanmar.

Nigel also called for a peaceful re-convening of Myanmar's new parliament. Before summoning Myanmar's ambassador to London, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted yesterday condemning the coup.

Johnson tweeted, "I condemn the detention and military coup of civilian leaders, including Suu Kyi, in Myanmar." The right to vote of the common man must be respected. Civilian leaders must be released. "

Myanmar's military seized power in a military coup on Monday (February 1st). Earlier, top leaders of Myanmar's State Councilor Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), were detained. The military has declared a year-long state of emergency in the country.
