UK and Germany sign new defense pact

International Desk: UK and Germany are going to sign a new defense agreement. The British government called the deal a "landmark defense deal" aimed at boosting security, investment and jobs. Under the deal, German defense firm Rheinmetall will open a new factory in the UK to make barrels for artillery guns. German defense minister is going to UK on Wednesday (October 23). He will sign the new defense agreement between the two countries there.

This information was reported by the British media BBC on Wednesday. The report said that both countries will work together to develop new long-range missiles and drones. German maritime surveillance aircraft will also periodically patrol the North Atlantic from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland. Both Germany and the United Kingdom are members of NATO. Both countries spend a lot of money on defense. Among them, the new 'Trinity House Agreement' will further enhance cooperation between the two countries in defense and security.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and UK Defense Secretary John Healy discussed the agreement in Berlin last July. Now they will sign that agreement. Germany and the UK are scrapping the deal two years after Russia's invasion of Ukraine and months after a change of government in the UK and ahead of the US presidential election. NATO partners in Europe are also watching the deal with great interest. Germany's defense minister said the deal would close the defense and security gap in Europe.

Before leaving Germany for the UK, he said, we can increase our defense capabilities with joint projects in the water, land, air and cyber world. This will strengthen NATO and Europe. He also said that we cannot neglect Europe's security after Russia's aggression in Ukraine. On the other hand, British Defense Minister Healy said that the agreement that is going to be signed is a very important event in the UK's relationship with Germany. It will also enhance Europe's security.

He said that close cooperation in arms production has also been mentioned in this agreement. The cooperation with the German army is unprecedented. As a result, the two countries' policies will be protected and the defense industry will improve. Under the agreement, German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall will open a new factory in the UK, which will create 400 jobs.
