3 crore worth of pepper is sold in the market

Gaibandha representative:  It seems unbelievable but it is true. A beautiful huge chilli hut decorated with red chopped chillies. The market is held two days a week on Saturday and Tuesday. On the day of the market, the farmers start coming to the market with a fleet of chillies. Farmers and wholesalers came to sell pepper from Char by boats and horse carts. Then began the clamor of sales.

As the day progresses, the hustle and bustle of buyers and sellers increases. Peppers are loaded in sacks and transported to various vehicles including trucks. Goes to different districts of the country. Traders said that at that place, which is quite famous as a pepper market, about 3 crore rupees worth of pepper is bought and sold in each haat.

This pepper market is located next to the old Phulchari Upazila Parishad of Gaibandha district near the banks of Brahmaputra river. Pepper farmers of Gaibandha Sadar, Phulchari, Saghata and Char area of ​​Sundarganj, Dewanganj upazilas sell their produced pepper here. Buyers can buy pepper from different parts of the country by river as communication system is good.

Talking to the marginal farmers of the Char area, it is known that their produced pepper is 10 to 12 maunds of dry chili per bigha. Each maund of pepper is sold at 9,500 or 10,000 taka. Farmers. 

However, the wholesalers say that they can easily sell the pepper due to the purchase of expensive companies such as Square and Pran Group. But many times they have to be deprived of the right price in the market syndicate. 

Mo Khorshed Alam, deputy director of Gaibandha Agricultural Extension Department, said that besides the convenience of buyers and sellers in the pepper market, if measures can be taken to preserve pepper, then the buyers and sellers will benefit. Also, due to the full season of pepper, the farmers are getting lower prices. But after a few days the price of pepper will increase.
