Abu Nashir, son of Nazir Hossain of Tabakpur village, has cultivated Bari-12 varieties of brinjal on 9 percent of the land this year. In the field, sex pheromone traps are hung 8-10 feet apart to control insects. A net has been pulled over the eggplant so that the birds cannot destroy it. 10 to 12 eggplants are hanging on each tree. Eggplants look like a gourd. Each eggplant is 250 grams to one and a half to two kilograms.

This time, Bari-12 brinjal was cultivated using sex pheromone traps on 9 percent of the land with the advice and seed support of the Upazila Agriculture Office. He did not think that he would make so much profit by cultivating brinjal. He spent 5 takas to grow eggplant. He is selling eggplant worth 7 to 8 thousand taka every week. At the wholesale rate, the price of brinjal per kg is 40 to 50 taka. This year he hopes to be able to sell about 50,000 to 60,000 taka of brinjal.

Abu Nashir also said that his father Nazir Hossain is a farmer. So he is proud to identify himself as a farmer's son. Majedul Islam, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer in charge of that area said, this brinjal is a new breed. Only advice and 20 grams of seeds have been provided to the farmers.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Mosharraf Hossain said that brinjal has been planted on 110 hectares of land in the upazila. Out of this, 5 farmers have cultivated Bari-12 brinjal on 65 percent of one acre land.
