Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen presented the election preparations in front of the diplomats in Delhi

News Desk:  Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen informed the diplomats of about 90 countries in New Delhi about the political situation in Bangladesh and the preparations for the upcoming general elections. He briefed the ambassadors in a function organized at Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Friday (November 24).

On Saturday (November 25), Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen briefed the heads of non-resident missions (about 90 missions) assigned to Bangladesh in New Delhi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. A large number of ambassadors and diplomats attended the briefing session.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen highlighted the priorities and dynamics of Bangladesh's foreign policy under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the briefing. He briefed the ambassadors about Bangladesh's position on various geopolitical and contemporary issues. During the briefing, he highlighted the recent socio-economic development of Bangladesh in the last 15 years under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Foreign Secretary also briefed the diplomats about the recent political situation in Bangladesh and preparations for the upcoming general elections. Noting that in many democratic countries elections are seen as a festival, he told the ambassadors that the people of Bangladesh are happy with this festival. They are eagerly waiting to vote for their preferred representatives and participate in the democratic process. The Election Commission is determined to conduct a free and fair election with voter participation in a festive atmosphere.

Masood bin Momen sought their support in resolving the Rohingya crisis by ensuring their safe and sustainable repatriation for peace and stability in the region and beyond.

During the briefing session, the ambassadors requested the support of their respective governments for Bangladesh's candidature for membership of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council under the 'C' category for the next 1 December 2024-2025 term to be held in London.

In view of Bangladesh's recent socio-economic development, continued stability, increasing importance on regional and global platforms and engagement with issues of global concern, the Foreign Secretary requested the ambassadors to request their respective governments to open a diplomatic mission in Dhaka. He assured them of Bangladesh government's cooperation and assistance to facilitate this process. The Foreign Secretary answered various questions raised by the ambassadors.

Earlier, Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen attended the Foreign Office consultative meeting between Bangladesh and India at Hyderabad House on November 24 afternoon. He will return to Dhaka on Saturday (November 25) afternoon.
