News desk: The controversial French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo has printed several cartoons of Iran's supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has protested by summoning the French ambassador in Tehran over the printing of these 'humiliating' cartoons. The French ambassador was summoned on Wednesday.

The French weekly ran dozens of cartoons about Khamenei. According to Charlie Hebdo, they organized a cartoon competition last month as part of their support for the ongoing anti-government protests in Iran. They printed these cartoons as part of the competition.

A young woman died last September while in the custody of the Niti Police in Iran. This incident sparked protests in Iran. According to Charlie Hebdo, they organized this cartoon competition to support the movement and struggle of Iranians fighting for independence.

After summoning the French ambassador, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran does not accept any insult to its Islamic, religious and national sentiments and values."

Reuters contacted the French Foreign Ministry for comment on the incident. But they had no immediate comment. In the same incident yesterday at the beginning of the day, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian warned that Tehran will respond strongly to this aggressive and indecent behavior.
Iran's foreign minister wrote on Twitter, "We will not allow the French government to go too far." They have definitely taken the wrong path.'

The newspaper printed cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This was strongly criticized. There are protests in the country. After this incident, on January 7, 2015, Charlie Hebdo's Paris office was attacked by terrorists. The militants attacked and killed 12 people. Khamenei's cartoon has been printed in a special publication to mark the anniversary of the deadly attack, the magazine said.
