US delegation meeting with representatives of civil society

News Desk:  The US delegation had a meeting with civil society representatives. The meeting was held on Sunday (February 25) at the residence of US Deputy Chief of Mission Helen Lafave in Gulshan of the capital.

Economist Debapriya Bhattacharya, Journalist Zillur Rahman, Adhikari Editor Adilur Rahman Khan, Dhaka University International Relations Department teacher Dr. participated in the meeting. Amena Mohsin, human rights activist Shireen Haque and others.  

The US Embassy in Dhaka said in a message about the meeting that civil society plays an important role in establishing a healthy democracy and positive change. We are very happy to know the bold views of the civil society about the current situation in Bangladesh and to meet the committed people. We will be active on issues of democracy and human rights. We urge the Bangladesh government to do the same.

Rear Admiral Eileen Laubecker, Senior Director of South Asia Affairs of the National Security Council, led the meeting on behalf of the United States. Besides, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Afrin Akhtar and USAID Assistant Administrator Michael Schiffer were also present.

It should be noted that a high-level US delegation arrived in Dhaka on Saturday (February 24) morning.
