Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi's visit to Almeria, Spain to explore the possibility of commercialization of agriculture

News Desk: A delegation led by Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi visited Almeria, Spain on May 25 at the invitation of Almeria Chamber of Commerce to explore the possibility of commercialization of agriculture in Bangladesh and Spain. Located in southeastern Spain, the province of Almeria is an example of sustainable agricultural development due to intensive agriculture. Almeria is Spain's top fruit and vegetable-producing province, representing more than 50% of Spain's national fruit and vegetable production, and Europe's largest cooperative vegetable-growing area. More than half of the production here is exported and this economic revolution has taken place in an area of ​​only 26,200 hectares. The average land area of ​​Almeria farmers is 1.5 hectares, which means that most of the production centers are in the hands of small or family farmers who are members of agricultural cooperatives. The Almeria model is considered a complete ecosystem of agricultural production and a revolution in agriculture. A discussion meeting was held between the Bangladesh delegation and the Almeria Chamber of Commerce at the Almeria Chamber of Commerce on 24 May at the initiative of the Commercial Wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in Spain. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, "We have come here to understand how this model of agriculture has been developed and how it is working." Bangladesh has to do the same as Almeria has done through agriculture from the poorest province of Spain and I know it can help my country. I believe that cooperation with Almeria and communication between the business sectors of the two countries will enhance mutual benefits and may be interesting. The President of Almeria Chamber of Commerce, Kheronimo Parra, thanked the Minister of Commerce of Bangladesh for their visit and highlighted the importance of this meeting. We have come to know that we have improved agriculture till we reach here. Parra highlights how Almeria has grown from a poor area to one of the richest in the world through agricultural advances, adding that we supply Almeria fruits and vegetables to much of Europe. In addition to Kheronimo Parra, President of the Almeria Chamber of Commerce, the meeting was also attended by Khesus Posadas, Executive and Plenary Committee Member of the Chamber, Victor Cruz, Director General of the Chamber, Carmen Navarro, Member of the Provincial Council of the University of Almeria, Council of Almeria, Juan Reka, Professor of Agronomy at the University of Almeria, and businessmen from the Almeria Chamber. The Bangladesh delegation includes Bangladesh Ambassador to Spain Mohammad Sarwar Mahmud, NDC, Deputy Secretary to the Ministry of Commerce Mohammad Mostafa Jamal Haider, Commercial Counselor Redwan Ahmed, former BGMEA President and businessman Qutbuddin Ahmed, FBCCI Director KM Akhtarzam and businessman KM Akhtarzam. .
