News Desk: Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md. Tajul Islam. The minister further said that not only water but also holding tax, gas and electricity and other utility services should be priced on a zonal basis. He was speaking as the chief guest at the 'Dissemination Seminar of Joint Research Project on Covid-19 by Dhaka WASA and ICDDRB' at WASA Bhaban in the capital's Karwan Bazar on Monday (May 30) afternoon. The minister said that no institution can run with subsidy. Tajul Islam said, “There is no opportunity to give water to the rich at low price with revenue from poor people. Increasing or decreasing the price of water is a matter for WASA authorities. The support given at Tk 15 by producing water at Tk 25 is not worthy. ” He said that water could be provided to the lower class people through subsidy. We need to establish 'equitable development'. " Mentioning that WASA water is safe, the Minister further said, But if the holes are not properly connected or harmful germs enter the water through the water reserve tank or overhead tank in the house. Which later spread everywhere. ” Meanwhile, the minister directed to lay new pipelines and punish those who are giving or taking connections illegally. The local government minister said, "For the supply of water in Dhaka city, the old pipelines are being replaced and new ones are being added so that it is possible to supply sterile water." He claimed that the government has taken various initiatives at different times to save people from various water borne diseases and is vigilant in this regard. Speaking as the chief guest, the minister said, “Feasibility study, land acquisition or loan negotiation goes on year after year while taking up the project which is not acceptable. Not all loans can be taken. We have to take a project for the country or with a loan that will contribute to the GDP. ” Noting that Dhaka is producing more water than the demand, the minister said, “Although pipelines have been laid to supply water to 5,000 households, the population in that area has multiplied several times over time. As a result, people are not getting proper water. Because the number of users is much more than the supply of water.
