Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said that the members of the search committee formed to form the Election Commission have an obligation to perform their duties following the principle of transparency and impartiality.

He made the remarks in a statement sent to the media on Sunday (February 8th).

Obaidul Quader said the president would form a new election commission from the list recommended by the inquiry committee. Recently, in the formation of the Election Commission, the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and other Commissioners Bill-2022 was passed in the Parliament. For the first time since independence, the Election Commission will be formed on the basis of specific laws.

He said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had ignored the legal issue and called the search committee purposefully meaningless. He has traditionally made such irresponsible remarks as the representative of those who gave birth to the anti-politics of seizing state power through assassination-coup-conspiracy and conspiracy in this country.

Quader said those who have repeatedly violated the constitution and customary law to assert their sovereignty by seizing state power and running the steamroller of authoritarian rule over the people of this country can only show the audacity to call such legal process worthless.

Obaidul Quader said that the people of Bangladesh do not tolerate the arbitrary and irresponsible remarks of any group and do not bow down to the blood and terror of the conspirators. He said that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had made a joke with the nation by crushing the democratic culture and democratic rights of the people of the country under the boot and imposing curfew brand democracy. At the same time, he usurped the constitution and the law by occupying the posts of army chief and president. Following in his footsteps, the BNP carries on the tradition of anti-politics. BNP leaders get irritated when they hear about any law or rule-policy in its continuity.

Quader said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had said that the inquiry committee and the election commission were all under the government. But we all know that the Election Commission is an independent and constitutional institution. And under the law made by the inquiry committee. In the case of enactment of this law, 22 amendments were brought in the National Assembly on the basis of the proposal of the representatives of BNP and other political parties.

Obaidul Quader claimed that the BNP has always had a negative attitude towards democratic norms and legal framework and in its continuation they are trying to question the inquiry committee as well. He said that Mirza Fakhrul Islam, like Alamgir, was blatantly lying for the sole purpose of misleading the nation for his own petty political interests.

Referring to the issue of election-time government resolved by the High Court, Quader said there was no scope for renegotiation. Since the BNP has no confidence in the people, the constitution and the democratic system of the country, they have repeatedly spoken of an unconstitutional approach. They are living the nightmare of seizing state power by appeasing foreign masters. Therefore, they have no responsibility towards the people of the country and the democratic system.

Quoting the BNP's corrupt policy of not participating in the elections, questioning the electoral system and ignoring the views of the people as anti-democratic politics, Quader said the party should not engage in anti-national conspiracies in the national and international arena. At the same time, I urge you to respect the constitution and law of the country.
