Government girls' school in Morelganj teacher crisis, disruption of education activities, declining number of students

Saiful Islam Kabir: Educational activities at Morelganj Government Girls High School in Bagerhat are being severely disrupted due to teacher-staff crisis. Due to which the number of students is declining at an alarming rate. Repeatedly sending demand letters to the higher authorities to resolve the crisis is not yielding any results.
  

The school was established in 1976 and was nationalized in 1984. Although the company has gone ahead with its reputation after going through various pastures and descents for a long time, the rhythm has been declining since 2016. The teacher crisis started from this year. An assistant teacher in the Bangla department has been the head teacher for 8 years. There has been no assistant head teacher for almost 6 years. Since the position of Mathematics subject has been vacant for a long time, the students have to rely on the privacy of teachers of other institutions for mathematics and higher mathematics. There are vacancies in Biology, Social Science, Geography, Home Science, Agriculture, Hinduism and Moral Education. In all, there are only 6 teachers against 19 posts. On the other hand, there are 6 vacancies for employees. High quality assistant and low quality assistant typist have been vacant for 8 years. 4th class 5 posts are zero. The work of 4th class employees is going on with 2 women in 2 master roles. Due to these reasons education activities have been hampered and the number of students has halved.

Several parents of the school said that now the school is running only by name. Their daughters are being taken forward through subject based private tutoring through teachers of different institutions. There is no accommodation for distant students. Many students are reluctant to be admitted due to various crises.
 

Mumtaz Begum, acting headmaster of the school, said that the higher authorities were not working with the demand letter. As a result, the school, which has always had good results and success in various competitions, is in dire straits.
