Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif has said that the BNP is opposing the law to form an election commission to embarrass the government.

He was speaking on the occasion of the historic mass uprising day at the memorial of Shaheed Matiur Rahman at the premises of Nabakumar Institute in Bakshibazar on Monday.

In response to the BNP's remarks, Hanif said, "The BNP never wants fair politics in this country." Their aim is to create a volatile situation in the country on any issue.

He said the BNP had said a week ago that the government could pass the law in this session if it wanted. Now when the law minister raised the law in the parliament, he said it was done in a hurry.

Advocate Kamrul Islam, who was present at the same function, said that the BNP had tried to agitate in the field demanding the Election Commission Act. Then some people said that it is possible to make a law in three days. Whenever the law was passed in the parliament, their language changed.

He said the change in the language of the BNP on the issue of Election Commission law shows that they do not want a fair election.

Stating that the BNP wants to cripple the electoral system, Kamrul Islam said that the evil forces that had to be fought during the mass uprising of '69 and 1971 are still being fought against. Yet they want to obstruct all progress, they want to cripple the electoral system.
