At least nine people have been killed and 11 others are missing in the Philippines after Cyclone Compassur. Reuters quoted a report by the country's National Disaster Management Authority as saying.

According to the country's central meteorological office, the compass hit several coasts of the Philippines on Monday evening. Before this storm, another small cyclone was forming, which was swallowed by Compassu. As a result, his strength has increased several times.

According to the Meteorological Department, Compassu was directly hit by the storm, with wind speeds of more than 100 kilometers (72 miles) per hour.

At least four people have been killed in a landslide caused by strong winds and torrential rains in the northern Philippine province of Benguela, according to the National Disaster Management Authority. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in at least five places in the southwestern island of Palawan.

Besides, 11 more people have gone missing due to landslides in different parts of the country. Disaster management authorities have confirmed to Reuters that rescue efforts are underway. Authorities also say about 1,600 people have been evacuated from coastal areas so far.

The Philippines, like Indonesia and the Maldives, is an archipelago. The total number of islands in the archipelago is more than 6,600. Landslides are a regular occurrence in the Philippines, with about 20 storms or hurricanes hitting the islands each year and heavy rainfall caused by these storms.

Harry Roku, a spokesman for President Rodrigo Duterte, told Reuters the president was closely monitoring the rescue efforts of the National Disaster Management Authority.
