News Desk: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dhaka will not discuss the Teesta issue. Foreign Minister said clearly. Abdul Momen. Not only Teesta, but also the Prime Minister of India will not bring any unresolved bilateral issues to the table during his visit, the Foreign Minister said.

Narendra Modi's visit will be entirely to celebrate the golden jubilee of independence. He made the remarks in response to a question from reporters after a function at Hotel InterContinental in the capital on Friday (March 12th). What are the expectations of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit? Foreign Minister in response to the question. Abdul Momen said, we are most happy, he is coming. But if you ask me if any kind of memorandum of understanding will be signed during the visit, I will say it is irrelevant. Coming with us to celebrate the golden jubilee of independence.

That's the big find. What else do you want? Asked if there would be any talks on Teesta during Narendra Modi's visit, the foreign minister said, "Exclude them." All we want is for this to be a joyous festival, for everyone to come to our big festival, we are happy with that. This is our big find, and what do you want? We are more worried about who gave you clothes and rice, we will manage them. They have problems that the Teesta agreement has not been implemented. We understand, we are not fools. You also know why this is not happening. You are not a fool, so why are you asking silly questions about these? The Minister said that the first foreign visit of the Prime Minister of India during his tenure was to Bangladesh. He didn't go anywhere, he didn't go anywhere after this Kovid, he is coming to Dhaka on his first foreign tour. All the time the head of state, the head of government came to Dhaka.

He will also visit our remote areas. Go to Satkhira, go to Gopalganj, go to Orakandi - think! Our biggest neighbor is the world's largest democracy, its head of government will visit these places. It is a great joy for us. What do you want next? The Minister said, "We have resolved all the major issues with India through dialogue. And if there is anything else, I will do it slowly. ' Teesta covered in sand instead of water. Water scarcity is having a detrimental effect on the northern districts and the livelihoods of the people there. The country's largest Teesta irrigation project is also uncertain due to lack of water. Negotiations between neighboring India over the distribution of the Teesta River have been going on since 1973, but have not been resolved. During the visit of the then Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh to Dhaka in September 2011, the much talked about Teesta water sharing agreement was to be signed. The interim agreement was valid for 15 years.

According to the agreement, 42.5 per cent of the Teesta water will be owned by India and 36.5 per cent by Bangladesh. But the signing of the Teesta Treaty was thwarted by the opposition of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India in 2014 raised hopes for the signing of the Teesta Agreement. During the visit, he had a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. But Mamata Banerjee is also bent on service. The Teesta treaty did not. Even West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who visited Dhaka with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015, promised to play a positive role in the Teesta deal, but to no avail.

The last time the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi assured Bangladesh about the Teesta Treaty was at a virtual conference held between the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and India in December 2020. And so naturally, Bangladesh was full of hope on the Teesta issue with Narendra Modi's visit to Dhaka this month. However, the foreign minister on Friday. Abdul Momen said there would be no discussion on the Teesta issue during Narendra Modi's visit.

Besides, unresolved issues between the two neighboring countries like water of other rivers or border killings will not come up in the table. This time the visit of the Prime Minister of India will be limited to the golden jubilee of the great independence of Bangladesh, said the Foreign Minister.
