Human chain in Thakurgaon protesting the expulsion of two BNP leaders

Thakurgaon Correspondent: Leaders and activists of the BNP in Baliyadangi upazila of Thakurgaon district formed a human chain protesting the expulsion of two local leaders.

On Thursday (31 July), this program was organized in the upazila town by Baliyadangi Upazila BNP along with its affiliated and associated organizations.

During the human chain, former Vice President of Baliyadangi Upazila BNP Mir Raziur Rahman Asad, Aiyub Ali Khan, Organizing Secretary of Ward No. 8 Barabari Union BNP Solaiman Ali, Organizing Secretary of the Labour Party Abdur Razzak, former President of Jubo Dal Abdul Kader, and Acting Convener of Baliyadangi Upazila Chhatra Dal Elias Ali Hridoy, among others, claimed that a council session of Baliyadangi Upazila BNP was held on 12 July 2025. Through voting, Advocate Md. Syed Alam was elected as President and former General Secretary Dr. T.M. Mahbubur Rahman was re-elected.

BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam’s younger brother and Thakurgaon District BNP’s General Secretary, Foysal Amin, announced the results. However, due to delays in the announcement, an unexpected incident occurred outside the venue involving district-level leaders.

In response, some district leaders, angered by the situation, went back and announced the dissolution of the committee. When the upazila committee rejected this announcement, the central committee was misinformed, leading to the expulsion of the newly elected two leaders—an action that not only the upazila BNP activists but also others could not accept. They argued that Advocate Md. Syed Alam and Dr. T.M. Mahbubur Rahman are key figures in the upazila BNP and were re-elected through proper voting. The current internal crisis has been caused by the jealousy of certain district-level leaders.

These two leaders have stood by grassroots activists long before the fascist Awami League began to lose power. The decision to expel them is unacceptable under any circumstance.

The protesting leaders demanded the immediate withdrawal of the expulsion to protect the party’s image. Otherwise, they warned of future demonstrations in front of the BNP office in Dhaka.
