Family Card Distribution Error Rate Only 1.2%, Says Finance Minister

News Desk: Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the pilot phase of the Family Card distribution program recorded an error rate of only 1.2%, describing it as very low in Bangladesh’s context.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the “Post-Flood Recovery and Rehabilitation Support in Bangladesh” project at the Chattogram Circuit House on Sunday (August 30), the minister said the cards were not distributed based on political considerations or party affiliation, and assured that they would not be distributed that way in the future either.

The finance minister said that ensuring the proper and efficient distribution of relief and assistance is essential during any disaster. He noted that in the past, Bangladesh experienced significant losses and waste in relief distribution due to poor management and corruption. According to him, a technology-based and transparent delivery system, such as the Family Card program, has effectively reduced waste and corruption.

Outlining the government's new economic strategy, Amir Khasru said all government programs are now being implemented through a partnership between government agencies, the private sector, and NGOs. He described this three-way collaboration as part of a broader effort to build a modern and innovative economic framework, extending beyond flood recovery and rehabilitation.

The minister also praised BRAC and other development partners for their rehabilitation efforts. He said sustainable rehabilitation is essential to ensure that relief reaches its intended purpose, and added that the government will continue working with NGOs and the private sector to deliver assistance directly to affected people in a transparent manner.
