Bangladesh Records Highest Daily Dengue Infections of the Year; 3 More Deaths Reported

News Desk: Dengue infections continue to rise across Bangladesh. In the past 24 hours, 1,097 people have been admitted to hospitals with dengue—the highest daily number of infections recorded this year. During the same period, three more people died from the disease.

The figures were released on Sunday (August 30) in the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS)'s regular dengue bulletin.

According to the DGHS, the total number of dengue-related deaths this year has now reached 93. Of these, 39 deaths occurred in August alone, while 36 were reported in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.

The bulletin stated that 1,097 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country between 8:00 a.m. Saturday and 8:00 a.m. Sunday. This brings the total number of dengue hospitalizations in 2026 to 34,683.

During the same 24-hour period, 793 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals. So far this year, 32,188 people have recovered and returned home.

The highest number of new admissions was recorded in the Dhaka Division, with 459 patients. Other divisions reported 243 admissions in Khulna, 123 in Barishal, 116 in Chattogram, 81 in Mymensingh, and 76 in Rajshahi.
