Security tightened in Delhi amid fear of Lashkar-e-Taiba terror attack

News Desk: After central intelligence agencies indicated that Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has targeted important religious places in India, the Delhi administration has put security alert in the country's major tourist hubs and high-security zones, including the Red Fort, where possible blasts may occur.

In a report on Friday (February 20), the Hindustan Times of India reported this information.

According to Hindustan Times, security has been beefed up at important religious and heritage sites in Delhi, particularly around the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, following intelligence indications of a possible terror threat.

Detective sources said a temple in Chandni Chowk area could be a possible target. Also sensitive religious places and crowded places may be targeted.

As a precaution, the Central Intelligence Agency and Delhi Police units are maintaining close coordination and vigilance has been strengthened through CCTV monitoring, vehicle searches and deployment of additional personnel at high-risk areas. Bomb disposal teams and dog squads have been kept ready for emergencies.

Notably, this alleged plan is said to be linked to the terrorist group's attempt to avenge the February 6, blast at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan.
