Iran announces when talks with the United States will take place

News Desk: Confirming the issue of talks with the United States, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that discussions between Tehran and Washington are planned to take place “within the next few days.”

Regarding the schedule of the talks, he told the country’s state news agency IRNA that Oman, Turkey, and several other countries have shown interest in hosting the discussions. The final venue will be determined soon.

On Tuesday evening (4 February), Donald Trump also announced on 3 February that talks with Iran are ongoing.

After a U.S. Navy vessel shot down an Iranian drone from the USS Abraham Lincoln, a White House spokesperson said that plans for the country’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to hold talks with Iranian officials remain in place.

These talks between Iran and the United States—reported to focus on Iran’s nuclear program—are set to begin three weeks after a violent crackdown on protests in Iran in January, during which thousands of demonstrators were killed or injured in police operations.

Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has held separate discussions with the foreign ministers of Turkey, Qatar, and Oman. During phone calls, Mr. Araghchi thanked these countries for their assistance in “reducing tensions and maintaining regional peace and security.”
