WhatsApp is getting an impressive new feature

WhatsApp is rolling out new features that make the app more convenient and user-friendly. Meta has now introduced a new message translation feature.

On Tuesday (September 23), Meta announced that initially, this feature will be available in six languages on Android devices and 19 languages on iPhones, with more languages to be added gradually.

In a blog post, Meta also stated that the translation feature respects chat privacy, because the translation process happens on the user’s device. This means WhatsApp itself will not have access to the user’s message content.

To use the new translation feature, users simply press and hold a message, then select the ‘Translate’ option and choose the desired language. The message will then be translated.

WhatsApp downloads the relevant language files to the user’s device, so translations work offline. The messages remain on the phone and are not sent to any server, keeping end-to-end encryption intact.

The translation feature works in personal chats, group chats, and channel updates—no extra setup is required. Android users can also enable automatic translation for an entire chat thread, so all future messages are translated automatically.

The feature is not yet available on all phones and is being rolled out gradually. Keeping the WhatsApp app updated is important to access it.

Due to technical reasons, WhatsApp is introducing the feature slowly to ensure performance remains stable, as older devices may have issues with real-time translation.

Currently, the feature is limited to mobile phones, and Meta has not announced plans for desktop or web versions yet.
