Zelenskyy ready to work with Trump to establish lasting peace

International Desk: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has softened his tone after days of heated rhetoric in the Oval Office of the White House, saying he is ready to work towards a lasting peace under the strong leadership of Donald Trump.

He made the remarks in a social media post after announcing the end of US military aid to Kiev, describing the White House meeting as "sad".

Trump complained that Zelensky was not ready to sit at the negotiating table. And now President Zelensky said in his post that it is time to make things right.

The Ukrainian President also described in detail what the first steps would be to end the war.

He wrote that his country is ready to act quickly to end the war. The first step could be the release of prisoners. Along with this, a ceasefire in the air - missiles, long-range drones; a ban on bombing electricity and energy and other civilian infrastructure. As well as a ceasefire at sea. However, Zelensky stipulated that Russia must also comply with these.

"Then we want to move quickly on all the next steps and work with the United States to reach a strong final agreement."

Zelensky wrote in his post that Friday's meeting "did not go as it should have. It is sad that it happened that way." He added, "Now is the time to fix the situation. We want our cooperation and communication to be constructive in the future."

He also said that Ukraine is now ready to sign a mineral agreement with the United States.

Ukraine learned on Tuesday that the United States had temporarily suspended military aid to it due to diplomatic failures last week.

President Zelensky directly expressed gratitude for the amount of aid the United States has provided to Ukraine so far.

He wrote, "America has helped a lot to protect Ukraine's sovereignty and independence, for which we are grateful."

Earlier on Friday, US Vice President J.D. Vance said in an Oval Office meeting that Zelensky had not expressed gratitude for the military assistance provided to Ukraine.
