Bangladesh and Chile discuss opening residential diplomatic missions

News Desk: As part of efforts to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand economic and trade cooperation, Bangladesh and Chile have discussed opening resident diplomatic missions in both countries' capitals.

​This issue was discussed during a bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna on the sidelines of an event marking the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) in Manila on Friday.

​This information was disclosed today in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

​During the meeting, both foreign ministers noted the immense potential for significantly increasing bilateral trade and agreed in principle to explore the possibility of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.

​The meeting also included discussions on the potential import of critical minerals from Chile and expanding the export of Bangladeshi products—including readymade garments, pharmaceuticals, electronic goods, and leather items—to the Chilean market.

​Dr. Khalilur Rahman suggested exchanging business delegations between the two nations to identify new investment and trade opportunities and to strengthen private sector engagement.

​The Chilean Foreign Minister also expressed his desire to visit Bangladesh soon.

​The meeting reflects the mutual interest in strengthening diplomatic engagement between the two countries while exploring new avenues for trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
