News Desk: Amid speculation over the possible resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is cutting short his overseas trip and returning to Bangladesh on Friday.

A source at the Parliament Secretariat confirmed the development to the media on Thursday (23 July).

According to the source, the speaker is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12:10 p.m. on a Thai Airways flight.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed traveled to Bangkok on 19 July for medical treatment. Under his original itinerary, he was due to return on 26 July. However, according to Parliament Secretariat sources, senior government authorities requested that he shorten his visit and return to the country earlier than planned.

A Parliament Secretariat official said that although the Speaker's return had originally been scheduled for 26 July, he had been asked by the government's higher authorities to come back as soon as possible. As a result, he will return on Friday.

When asked about the reason for the speaker's early return, the official said that various rumors regarding the president's possible resignation had been circulating since Wednesday.

"We have been hearing various rumors since yesterday regarding the president's resignation. That may be why the Speaker is cutting short his visit and returning home. Hopefully, everything will become clear tomorrow," the official said.

No official confirmation has yet been issued regarding the reported speculation surrounding the president's position.
