News Desk: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the president has the constitutional option to resign and that the government has no role in such a decision.

He made the remarks on Thursday (23 July) while responding to questions from journalists at the Secretariat.

"The president has the option to resign. There is nothing for the government to say on this matter," the home minister said.

He explained that, under the Constitution, if the President wishes to resign, he must submit a letter of resignation to the Speaker of Parliament.

Commenting on the ongoing speculation surrounding the president's possible resignation, Salahuddin Ahmed said, "There are rumors regarding the president's resignation, but they remain just that—rumors. Whether he will resign or not is a question that should be directed to him."

The Home Minister further noted that the Constitution provides the President with the opportunity to step down if he chooses to do so.

"If the president wishes, he may resign on health grounds. In that case, there is nothing the government can do," he added.
