The 'Rule of Law' program is being implemented in 26 districts of the country

News Desk: The 'Rule of Law' program is being implemented in 26 districts of the country to reform the judiciary and prisons, especially speedy disposal of pending cases, reduce the number of prisoners in prisons and increase people's access to justice. Various measures have also been taken to free the prisoners from criminal tendencies and bring them back to normal life.

GIZ and the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh are assisting in this implementation with the help of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom Government. Following this, Hon'ble Home Minister Mr. Asaduzzaman MP, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mr. Robert Chatterton Dixon and Mr. German handed over livelihood items such as sewing machines, electronic toolboxes, computers etc. to the released prisoners at the Jail Convention Center in Dhaka today.

British High Commissioner Robert Chatterton Dixon said: "I am just happy to be here. Today's event marks the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of Bangladeshi prisoners and their family members who are benefiting from the partnership between the UK, Germany and Bangladesh. "The United Kingdom, a longtime partner in Bangladesh's development, has placed great emphasis on security, safety and justice. I am glad that many released prisoners will get livelihood assistance through this joint project to rehabilitate themselves sustainably in the society.

"I am also pleased to see the way in which our joint venture has greatly assisted Bangladesh's justice enforcement agencies in managing the Covid-19 Extreme Challenge." The event was attended by Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Md. Mominur Rahman Mamun, Additional Secretary of the Security Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Finance and Administration Division). Young Kanti Sikder, Rafiqul Alam, President of Dhaka Ahsania Mission and Pramita Sengupta, Head of 'Rule of Law' Program.
