Two madrasa students vandalize Bangabandhu's sculpture after hearing Mamunul-Faizul's statement: Police

News Desk: Police have arrested four people in connection with the vandalism of a sculpture under construction of Bangabandhu in Kushtia. Among them are two madrasa teachers and two madrasa students.

Police say Maulana Mamunul Haque, the joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, and Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, a senior naib emir of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh, have vandalized the sculpture of Bangabandhu.

The four arrested are Ibn Masood (ra) madrasa teacher of Jagati Paschimpara area of ​​Kushtia city and Md. Abdur Rahman's son Md. Al Amin (28), a teacher and son of Azizul Mandal of Diar Bamundi area of ​​Aminpur police station of Pabna. Ifsuf Ali (28) and a student studying in the Hefz department of the same madrasa and Md. Mridha's son from Shingpur village of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia. Abu Bakkar alias Mithan (19), Daulatpur upazila of the district, Filipnagar (Golabaria) area. Shamsul Alam's son said. Sabuj Islam alias Nahid (20).

Khulna Range DIG Khandaker Muhid Uddin said this at a press conference at the office of Kushtia Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafat at 3.30 pm on Sunday.

It was informed at the press conference that Kushtia Municipality Secretary Kamal Uddin filed a case with Kushtia Model Police Station on Saturday night. They have been shown arrested in the 1984 Special Powers Act case.

According to a press release issued by the police, Abu Bakkar and Sabuj Islam vandalized the under-construction sculpture of Bangabandhu at the intersection of five roads in Kushtia last Friday night, inspired by the statements of Maulana Mamunul Haque and Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim. On the night of the incident, the two of them walked together from the madrasa to a crossroads about five kilometers away. The two climbed the bamboo ladder used in the construction of the sculpture.

Then he took out the hammer from the bag on the green back. The two vandalized the sculpture together. After vandalizing for 6 minutes, they walked back to the madrasa. On Saturday morning, they reported the matter to Madrasa teachers Al Amin and Ifsuf. They told the two students to flee. The two students later moved into their respective homes. Police raided and arrested them.
