Role Model Bangladesh in Disaster Management: Prime Minister

News desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that modern technology and technology have been introduced in the Bangladesh Meteorological Department in the past years to deal with natural disasters. She said this in a message given on the occasion of World Meteorological Day-2024 on Saturday.

The Prime Minister also said that this year's theme of the day, 'At the Frontline of Climate Action' is apt, timely and significant.

Mentioning that Bangladesh is one of the countries at risk of various natural disasters, she said that the Awami League government is determined to achieve the sustainable development goals announced by the United Nations. For this purpose, the government has taken various activities including 100-year delta plan, five-year plan with priority on climate change adaptation system. Through the implementation of these plans in stages, Bangladesh will be able to achieve the status of an upper-middle income country by 2030 and become a developed country in 2041.

She said that the Awami League government has introduced modern technology and technology in the Bangladesh Meteorological Department in the past years to deal with natural disasters. As a result, the overall capacity of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has increased and it is playing an important role in providing various term forecasts and warnings of various natural disasters caused by climate change and other extreme weather conditions.

Referring to Bangladesh's role model in the world in disaster management, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that as a result of taking various effective steps in advance forecasting, preventing environmental disasters to overcome the challenges and effects of climate change, determining strategies to support economic development, optimal use of natural resources, climate change-tolerant Bangladesh will be built. The government is working to raise it. Bangladesh is playing a significant role in determining climate change policy at the international level as well.

Sheikh Hasina said that our government has strengthened the research program on agricultural meteorology with the establishment of 7 new agricultural meteorological observatories to improve the quality of agricultural meteorological forecasting services along with the existing meteorological observatories. Also 5 meteorological surface observatories, 13 earthquake observatories have been established. 3 satellite ground receiving stations have been installed. Already, 1 modern Doppler radar has been installed at Joydevpur for safe flight and landing of Kalbaisakhi and thunder storms and another 1 Doppler radar is in progress at Rangpur.

The Prime Minister said, let us all build a developed and prosperous Smart Sonar Bangla, the lifelong dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib.
