The meeting was presided over by Chairman of Sadaqatul Fitr Determination Committee and Khatib Hafez Mufti of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Maulana Mohammad Ruhul Amin. It was attended by members of the Fitra determination committee and prominent scholars. At the end of the meeting, the chairman of the committee informed the journalists about the rate of fitra.

It was unanimously decided in the meeting that according to Islamic Shari'ah, Muslims can distribute wheat, flour, dates, raisins, cheese and barley a certain amount or its market value to the poor as Fitra according to their ability.

In the case of wheat and flour, its amount is 650 grams (half a kilogram) per kilogram. In the case of dates, raisins, cheese and barley, 3 kg of 300 grams (one Sa') has to be paid as Sadkatul Fitr (Fitr).

The maximum and minimum fitrah is determined by calculating the market price of these products.

Hafez Mufti Maulana Mufti Ruhul Amin said, in case of high-quality flour or wheat, Fitra is 650 grams (half a kilogram) or its market price is Tk 115. In case of barley (one sa') 3 kg 300 grams or its market price Tk 400 must be paid.

Local retail market prices of Fitra's products vary. Maulana Ruhul Amin also said that even if the local price is paid, the Fitrah will be collected.

He also said, ``If those who are able to whom Allah has given them the ability, pay the Fitrah with the extra or whatever is more expensive, he will be more dear to Allah. It will be beneficial for him.

It is wajib on Muslim men and women to pay Sadaqatul Fitr on the morning of Eid if they own a Neshaab amount (equivalent to 7 and a half tolas of gold or 52 and a half tolas of silver). Fitra must be performed before going to the Eid prayer.

Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated on April 10 or 11, depending on the sighting of the moon.
