Manikganj Representative: White flowers and black seeds, price like gold. Hence it is known as black gold to everyone including farmers. From a distance it may look like a white flower garden. And in this white flower is hidden the colorful dream of the farmer.

Known as black gold, this onion seed is valued all over the country. On the surface, it was seen that the white flowers of onion seeds are adorning the field of Harirampur upazila of Manikganj.

Onion seeds have been cultivated in every area of ​​the upazila. If the weather is favorable, the farmers of Harirampur in Manikganj are dreaming of double profit.

Farmer Mainaddin Fakir of Vijayanagar village in Gala union of Harirampur said that we get good profit from this crop. I have been growing onion seeds for the past ten years. This year I planted onion seeds in 15 percent of the land. I hope to meet my own needs and sell some seeds to make a profit.

Md Farooq, a farmer of Baika village in Balla Union, said that this year I have cultivated onion seeds on 43 percent of the land. I am busy tending to the field. Pesticides have to be sprayed for various diseases. If everything goes well, he expects to sell seeds for more than one and a half lakh rupees.

Subhash Majumder, a farmer of Rajar Kalta village, said that since the price of the seeds was good last year, this year I planted onion seeds on more land with interest. This year I planted onion seeds in 25 percent of the land from onions collected at home.

Harirampur Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Touhiduzzaman Khan said that the target level of onion seed production has been set on 25 hectares of land in Harirampur Upazila in the current financial year. Farmers dealing with onion seeds this year have smiles on their faces as the weather has been favourable. It is expected that the onion seed production target will be exceeded this year.

Apart from this, the upazila agriculture office is providing necessary support as well as advice from seed production, storage to marketing so that farmers can produce onion seeds commercially using modern agricultural technology.
