Gambling event at irrigation pump in Gopalpur, 4 gamblers arrested

Gopalpur Correspondent:  The police arrested 4 gamblers from the gambling hall of irrigation pump in Gopalpur of Tangail. The police caught them red-handed while gambling from Porabari area on Sunday late night. The arrested are Mintu (45) son of deceased Abul Hossain of Porabari village, Jalal Uddin (50) son of Nayan Ali, Tarek Mia (25) son of Ahmed Ali and Ali Azgar (32) son of Matiar Rahman.

Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam said, while conducting an arrest warrant Tamil and drug recovery operation in Gopalpur police station area, I received information that some persons were playing cards and gambling for money in the vacant land near Zainal Mia irrigation pump in that area. They were first arrested from the spot by conducting an operation based on the news. Later legal action was taken against the witnesses present by confiscation of gambling equipment and cash.  

Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mosharraf Hossain said that the defendants have committed the crime of section 4 of the Public Gambling Act of 1867 by gambling with cards for money in public places. A regular case against them has been sent to jail through the court. He sought the full cooperation of all to build a society free of all crimes including drugs.
