International Desk: Turkey will send army commandos to Kosovo on Sunday and Monday. NATO has requested to send troops to Kosovo to ease the tension that has been seen in the country recently. In response to this request, NATO member Türkiye is sending commandos. The British news agency Reuters reported this information on Saturday (June 3) about the Ministry of Defense of Turkey. The Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement that the current tensions in Kosovo could disrupt regional stability and security.

They called for fruitful discussions to defuse the tension. Regarding the deployment, the Ministry of Defense said, "One of our commando battalions will be deployed on June 4-5." Meanwhile, regional government by-elections were held in the north of Kosovo in April. Ethnic Albanians were elected mayors in three places and took office. But the northern part of Kosovo is dominated by ethnic Serbs. They boycotted the election organized by the central government of Kosovo.

Clashes erupted a few days ago when three ethnic Albanians took over the post of mayor. After this incident, the United States criticized the government of Kosovo. The US administration has warned that action will be taken against them if the problem is not resolved. Major clashes broke out in the north of Kosovo last Monday. 30 NATO peacekeepers and 52 Serbian protesters were injured that day. NATO decided to send more troops to Kosova after this attack.
