Eye treatment should also be given importance: Sheikh Hasina

News desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, we are inaugurating the eye vision centers, but eye treatment must be given importance along with other services. Because as a result of our initiative, many blind people have now regained their sight.

The Prime Minister said this at the inauguration of the Community Vision program in 45 more upazilas of the country on Wednesday (January 18) around 11:00 am. The Prime Minister inaugurated the program by being virtually present at the National Institute of Ophthalmology. Earlier this program was inaugurated in 70 other upazilas. Through this, patients can get services for all kinds of eye problems in the hospitals in the upazilas. The Prime Minister said, we have inaugurated this program in 70 upazilas and now in 45 upazilas. We have developed the roads so that people can come to the hospital easily. He said that once the people of the country did not get proper treatment for various diseases, now they are getting it. We want to improve patient care in hospitals. In this case, everyone should help.

Sheikh Hasina said, many have advised me to set up community vision center in the upazila. In this case Dr. Modachher Ali, Dr. I would like to speak about Deen Mohammad in particular. I thank all the doctors involved in this. Stating that we have successfully dealt with Corona, the head of government said that the death due to Corona has been reduced due to taking the right steps in time. We bravely brought the vaccine. Vaccinated people for free. He said, we have strengthened research along with medical services. I have done medical in major districts of the country. We will make medical universities in the departments, we are taking measures in that way. The number of students in medical colleges is increasing.

Sheikh Hasina said, in 2009, there were 38 thousand beds in the country's hospitals, it has been increased to 67 thousand. Every institute including eye institute was established during Awami League. Children's hospitals should be in every department. Tax has been waived on child treatment. I have reduced the tax on the purchase of hospital equipment at the private level.

The Prime Minister also said that there is a plan to increase Dhaka Medical College to 5 thousand beds. Could not start due to Corona, Russia-Ukraine war. But I will do it soon.
