17 killed in Himachal bus crash

At least 16 people have been killed when a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in India's Himachal Pradesh state. Among the dead were some school children. According to the Hindustan Times, the evening bus came near Jangla village around 8 am on Monday and fell into a ditch. The front of the bus is completely twisted. Kullu Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Gorg confirmed the information. He said local officials and rescue teams had arrived at the scene. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted condolences over the accident. He said, “The bus accident in Himachal is really heartbreaking. I offer my condolences to the bereaved family at this difficult time. Hopefully the injured will recover soon. The local administration is providing all kinds of assistance to the victims. ” The Prime Minister's Office tweeted that the central government has announced compensation of Rs 200,000 to each family of those killed in the accident.
