Criticism of placing murals of Bangabandhu,Katakhali municipal mayor arrested from Dhaka

News Desk: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Abbas Ali, Mayor of Katakhali Municipality of Rajshahi on charges of insulting Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He was arrested on Wednesday (December 1) morning from Hotel Rajmoni Isha Khan in Kakrail in the capital.

The arrest was confirmed by Khandaker Al Moin, commander of RAB's legal and media wing.

He said Abbas Ali, the mayor of Katakhali municipality in Rajshahi, was arrested from Hotel Rajmoni Isha Khan in the capital on charges of insulting the mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin added that the operation started from dawn. The campaign is still going on. Details will be announced at the end of the campaign.

Earlier, at an emergency meeting of Paba Upazila Awami League at the party office on November 24 in the afternoon, Abbas was expelled from the post of convener of Municipal Awami League.

Abbas Ali, the twice-elected mayor, addressed the boat symbol, criticizing the construction of the mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. An audio of his leak is circulating on social media.

With such a statement, a commotion started in Rajshahi. However, Mayor Abbas has denied the whole incident. Three cases were filed against Mayor Abbas under the Digital Security Act at Rajpara, Boalia and Chandrima police stations in Rajshahi on Tuesday night.

Abdul Momin, president of Rajshahi Mahanagar Swechchhasebak League and ward councilor of Rajshahi City Corporation's 13th ward, is the plaintiff in the case.
