Nilphamari Correspondent: When you hear the name of coffee, you feel comfortable. As far as farming is concerned, the name of the country is not like ours. Coffee is the second largest soft drink product of the country. With little capital and the soil of this upazila is suitable for coffee cultivation
Its commercial cultivation is now the demand of the time. They are dreaming of building a coffee industry from small entrepreneurs. However, those concerned say that if coffee processing equipment is set up with public-private sponsorship, it is possible to earn foreign exchange by meeting the demand of the coffee country.

It has been learned on the ground that Abdur Quddus, the owner of Bismillah Nursery in Munsipara village of Sadar upazila, started coffee cultivation in the upazila in 2014 on his own initiative. He collected 150 Arabian coffee seedlings from Jahanara Green Agro Farm in Cox's Bazar six years ago and started commercial cultivation on 2% of the land. Initially, he was successful in processing coffee at home in Uran-Gain and supplying it to Dhaka. Not a dream, he is walking down the ladder of success. Sultan Ali of Putimari Kachari Para village of the upazila highlighted the benefits of coffee cultivation and said that it is more profitable to cultivate coffee than other crops. Diseases with care are less, cows do not eat goats and fencing is not required. Yield is available in 2 years after planting. And the smell is incomparable in taste. Where 1 kg of tea leaves costs 300 rupees, 1 kg of coffee can be sold for 4,000 rupees.

He has got good success by cultivating coffee in 10 percent of the land. Along with the amateur farmers, under the overall supervision of the Upazila Agriculture Department, 8 high yielding Vietnamese coffee gardens of Robasta variety have been established on 1 acre land in different unions including Magura, Garagram and Ranchandi. Upazila Agriculture Officer Habibur Rahman said the soil in the area is very suitable for coffee cultivation. However, with the introduction of coffee processing equipment, farmers will become more interested in coffee cultivation. And the export sector will become a golden crop. This will increase the agricultural economy as well as employment.
