Katiadi (Kishoreganj) Correspondent: Aus paddy harvesting festival has started in the crop field of Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj. Free distribution of Aus paddy seeds and fertilizers among the farmers. Done. Farmers are smiling with satisfaction after seeing the yield of Aush. According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, most of the land in the upazila was fallow after the boro paddy was harvested and the transplanted aman was planted.

Farmers used to cultivate local varieties of paddy in the Aus season. This year, Aus has been planted in a record amount of 3,450 hectares of land in the upazila. This year Brie Dhan-48, Brie Dhan-72 and Bina-19 varieties of paddy have been produced. This paddy becomes suitable for harvesting in about 110 days after planting. Therefore, as the yield of this variety of aus paddy is very low, the farmers were losing interest in cultivating aus paddy day by day. The Upazila Agriculture Department hopes that the farmers will be greatly encouraged in the future due to the bumper yield of Aus in the current season.

Babul Mia, a farmer from South Jhakalia (Tiger Mor) village of the upazila, said he has cultivated Brie-48 variety aus paddy in 52 per cent of the land. It has cost him 8 thousand rupees. He got about 24 manas of paddy in the land. Now paddy is being sold at Rs 1,200 per ounce. He is expecting a good profit. He is preparing to plant aman on the same land after harvesting aus.

Rafiqul Islam, a farmer from Boalia village, said the land does not have to be irrigated for aus paddy cultivation. He is cultivating aus in 35 percent of the land. The paddy has already been harvested. Currently, the work of sweeping and threshing is going on. Received all kinds of consulting services from the Department of Agriculture. Hopefully they will benefit by getting good prices.

Azad Mia, a sharecropper from Chandpur village, said the yield was better than other years. If there is a fair price in the market, there is no need to subsidize paddy. I hope so
Get the right market price. I am happy to get golden rice. Md. Mukshedul Haque, Upazila Agriculture Officer, said that the farmers of this upazila did not cultivate aus paddy. Aus paddy has been planted in a record amount of land in the upazila this year and the yield has also been good. As a result, farmers will benefit from aus cultivation.
