News Desk: Bangladesh CNG Autorickshaw Drivers Struggle Council has demanded the introduction of CNG-powered autorickshaws in compliance with strict health rules. The demand was made in a statement sent by the convener of the council Sheikh Hanif and joint convener Aminul Islam on Saturday (July 1).

In a statement, they said the government has kept the lockdown in effect in the name of imposing strict restrictions across the country after Eid-ul-Azha due to the recent rise in the number of coronary infections and deaths in the country, including delta variants. Although it was introduced for a few days on the occasion of Eid, the government has stopped CNG-powered autorickshaws from July 23. As a result, about one lakh drivers have become unemployed in Dhaka Metro alone. Drivers eat day in and day out. He is also half-starved. Can't arrange treatment if sick. Today is their big day. In this case, the government also has no effective financial incentive.

Leaders said CNG autorickshaws are mainly personal vehicles. The use of this vehicle is very unlikely to be infected with corona. As the government has announced to start all export-oriented industries from August 1, workers from the villages are coming to work without borrowing any kind of hygiene. This increases the risk of infection at an alarming rate. People working in the company are suffering to go to work as public transport is closed. Moreover, his relatives are not able to take him to the hospital as soon as possible due to lack of transportation. The death rate is increasing.

We demand the repeal of the government's decision to ban CNG-powered autorickshaws to protect autorickshaw drivers and their families across the country.
