Implementing the Teesta Mega Plan will be one of the key tasks of a BNP government :Tarique Rahman

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Tarique Rahman has said that if BNP wins the election on the 12th, one of the party’s key tasks will be to implement the Teesta Mega Plan. He added that a medical college and university infrastructure will be implemented quickly in the region, Syedpur Airport will be upgraded to an international airport, and Kishoreganj upazila will be developed as a regional hub.

He made these remarks on Saturday (7 February) while addressing an election rally at Nilphamari Boromath field in the afternoon.
He further said that this election is not merely about electing representatives, but about rebuilding the nation—an election to restore the rights that people have lost. “We want to move the country forward. To do so, we want to transform Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, and Panchagarh into industrial regions. To implement our plans, we must be victorious by voting for the Sheaf of Paddy,” he said. Noting that Nilphamari is known as an agricultural district, he added that the district will be developed as an agricultural hub.

Tarique Rahman said that through the 12 February election, the rights that were taken away from people would be restored through voting. He alleged that for the past 16 years, autocratic rule focused only on self-interest. “We want to form a government with the support of the people and make the country self-sufficient in food,” he said.

Addressing women, he said that the country cannot progress without engaging women in productive work. He noted that Khaleda Zia had introduced free education for women and said BNP wants to make women self-reliant. “We want to ensure that a family card reaches every woman. Alongside the family card, we also want to provide an agriculture card to every farmer, which will make it easier to access loans. We want to waive agricultural loans of up to Tk 10,000 and repay microloans taken from NGOs on behalf of the people as a government initiative,” he said.

Tarique Rahman further said that the region is agriculture-based and that BNP will stand by farmers while also developing agriculture-based industries to create employment. He said many youths are unemployed and that BNP wants to provide training to turn them into skilled workers. “We have carried out movements and struggles. Now we want to rebuild the country together with the people. To do this, we need the cooperation of the public,” he added.

The rally was presided over by Nilphamari District BNP Convener Mir Selim Faruk. BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman attended as the chief guest, along with BNP candidates from all four constituencies, including Shahreen Islam Tuhin, the BNP candidate for Nilphamari-2.
