What Jaishankar said when asked whether Hasina would stay in India

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said that whether Sheikh Hasina will stay in India or not is a decision she has to make herself.

He made the remark on Saturday (6 December) during a discussion with NDTV CEO and Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal at the HT Leadership Summit held in New Delhi.

According to the Indian External Affairs Minister, former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s stay in India is entirely her personal choice. The circumstances under which she came to India have influenced the situation.

When asked whether Sheikh Hasina can stay in India for as long as she wishes, he responded, “That is a different matter. The circumstances under which she has come here will play a major role in determining her future. But once again, I would say that ultimately this is something she has to decide for herself.”
