Voice of America to Cease Operations in Pakistan and Three Other Countries

News Desk: The Trump administration is planning to close several foreign offices of Voice of America (VOA), according to information provided to U.S. lawmakers.

This decision is being seen as another step in the administration’s ongoing effort to limit the reach of U.S.-funded international media.

According to a report in The New York Times, Carrie Lake, the head of VOA and a close ally of Trump, sent a notice to Congress on November 25. The document outlined plans to close six foreign news bureaus and four overseas marketing offices.

The offices slated for closure include:

• Jakarta (Indonesia)

• Islamabad (Pakistan)

• Nairobi (Kenya)

• Prague (Czech Republic)

Additionally, VOA radio stations in Germany, Thailand, and Botswana are also set to be shut down.

Authorities have indicated that broadcasting could continue through contractors if necessary, but the long-term plan is to significantly reduce VOA’s global presence.
