Eight parties will vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum

Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, Mia Golam Parwar, has stated that in the upcoming referendum to provide legal backing for the July Charter, his party, along with seven other aligned parties, will vote “Yes” in favor of the reforms.

He said, “The public will also be encouraged to vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum.”

Mia Golam Parwar made these remarks on Sunday (16 November) at a joint press conference held at Al-Falah Hall in Moghbazar, Dhaka.

The press conference was organized by the eight-party alliance in light of the prevailing political situation in the country. Earlier at 11 a.m., the top leaders of the eight parties held a meeting at Al-Falah Hall before addressing the media.

The alliance stated that their movement will continue if a level playing field for elections is not ensured. On this matter, the Jamaat Secretary said, “Our movement does not aim to obstruct the election process. Rather, it will help make elections more transparent and accountable to the people.”

Other coalition leaders present urged the government to consider the sentiments and aspirations of the majority of the population, so that new political opportunities are not stifled under pressure.

They also called on the government to clarify to the nation any potential complications if the national election and the referendum are held on the same day.

Mia Golam Parwar concluded by saying, “Our movement will continue. The Liaison Committee will discuss the next course of action and announce it. The government should prioritize the aspirations and feelings of the people to ensure that new political opportunities are not compromised.”
