News Desk:
Krishak Sramik Janata League President Bongobir Kader Siddique has said that the fall of Sheikh Hasina was not caused by the BNP, Jamaat, or any new political force. Rather, it was “a punishment from Allah,” which he described as the result of divine displeasure.
He made these remarks on Sunday (16 November) during a dialogue with the Election Commission (EC) held in the conference room of the Election Commission building in Agargaon.
As part of the EC’s ongoing dialogues with registered political parties, Kader Siddique reminded the Commission of its constitutional position, saying that once the election schedule is announced, the EC becomes the highest authority of the state—above even the government.
He said that the Election Commission has the crucial responsibility of ensuring the people’s right to vote.
Kader Siddique also stated that his party has decided not to participate in any discussions called by the government for the past 15 months. He emphasized that there is no question of joining any government-led dialogue before the elections.
He reiterated that after the election schedule is declared, the EC becomes the supreme institution of the state, and the government’s duty is merely to implement the Commission’s decisions. He criticized the decision to hold the referendum and national election simultaneously, calling it a major inconsistency. If 70–80% of voters do not participate in the referendum, he warned, the election itself could be jeopardized.
He accused previous Election Commissions of fulfilling the desires of the government, calling it highly negative, and urged the current Commission to use its opportunity to do better.
Kader Siddique said again that Sheikh Hasina’s fall was not due to BNP, Jamaat, or any new force, but was “a punishment from Allah.”
Regarding Jamaat-e-Islami, he added that the party deserves no respect because it has not apologized for opposing the Liberation War. “I respect all Islamist parties including the Khelafat movement. I would have respected Jamaat too if they had apologized to the nation for their role against the Liberation War,” he said.
